At the 98th annual Academy Awards ceremony, Jane Fonda humorously commented on Barbra Streisand's participation in the In Memoriam segment honoring Robert Redford. Redford passed away on September 16, 2025, at the age of 89.
Fonda, 88, lightheartedly questioned Streisand's presence, stating, "I want to know how come Streisand was up there doing that for Redford?" She added, "I made four! I have more to say."
Reflecting on her own relationship with Redford, Fonda shared, "I was always in love with him. The most gorgeous human being and such great values." She acknowledged his significant contributions to cinema, particularly in championing independent films.
Streisand, 83, starred alongside Redford in the 1973 romance drama "The Way We Were." Onstage, she delivered a moving tribute to the actor-filmmaker and performed the film's hit song, a rare live rendition.
