14 Jul
Summary
- Granddaughter defends grief expression after singer's passing.
- She mourns grandmother and elder sister lost recently.
- Family embraces spiritual view of death and enduring love.

Apsara Vydyula, granddaughter of the late legendary singer S Janaki, has shared a heartfelt message addressing public judgment of her grief. She explained that outward displays do not define her love for her grandmother, who passed away on July 11. Vydyula noted that her family was taught a spiritual perspective on death, emphasizing that love transcends life itself.
The profound sorrow is compounded by the recent death of Vydyula's elder sister, Varsha, in August 2023. Vydyula described Varsha as Janaki's "favorite person," noting their exceptional bond. She expressed that Varsha should have been the one caring for their grandmother.
She also touched upon the challenges of grieving under public scrutiny, where opinions are often formed by those outside the family's intimate experience. Vydyula remembered S Janaki as gentle, humble, and non-judgmental, sharing an "infectious childlike spirit" with Varsha.
Finding peace in the reunion of her grandmother and sister, Vydyula concluded that their togetherness brings her comfort. The veteran singer S Janaki passed away at 88 due to cardiac arrests and was cremated with state honors in Mysuru.
