Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' Stuck in Legal Limbo
22 Jan
Summary
- Jana Nayagan's release delayed due to legal dispute with CBFC.
- Film's Rs 500 crore investment at risk amid uncertainty.
- Amazon Prime Video threatened legal action over release date concerns.

Thalapathy Vijay's highly anticipated farewell film, Jana Nayagan, has been caught in a legal entanglement with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), leading to its theatrical release being indefinitely postponed. The Madras High Court heard arguments on January 20 but reserved its order, failing to meet the desired Republic Day release window.
The delay has placed the film's Rs 500 crore investment in jeopardy, with producers KVN Productions expressing grave concerns. Adding to the pressure, Amazon Prime Video issued a legal threat on December 31 due to the release date uncertainty.
With the Republic Day slot missed, filmmakers are now targeting February 6 or 13 as alternative release dates. However, the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections and the potential imposition of the Model Code of Conduct in the third week of February pose further challenges.
Given Vijay's political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), will contest the elections, authorities might halt screenings if the film is perceived to influence voters. Thus, an early February release is crucial to circumvent further postponements.
