Jamie-Lynn Sigler: Hollywood Exit Was Survival

Jamie-Lynn Sigler has detailed her departure from Hollywood, explaining it was a move driven by survival and a need for sanity amidst her ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis. She and her family relocated to Austin, Texas, during the pandemic, seeking a significant life change away from the intense pressures of Los Angeles.

Upon arriving in Austin, Sigler found a sense of freedom she hadn't experienced in Hollywood. She noted that she began using a cane occasionally because she felt less scrutinized. This allowed her to simply be a mother to her children at their baseball games.

Sigler was first diagnosed with MS at the young age of 20 but kept her condition a secret for more than ten years. She publicly disclosed her diagnosis in 2016, but the emotional and physical toll of hiding her illness had been significant, impacting her mental health and likely contributing to flare-ups.

She has found support and candid conversation about living with MS through her podcast partner Christina Applegate, who also has the disease. Sigler credits Applegate with fostering an environment of open discussion about the realities of managing MS.
