16 Feb
Summary
- Cameron calls marriage a 'learned art' based on experience.
- He identified himself as the 'common denominator' in past divorces.
- Successful marriage requires constant learning and making a partner happy.

James Cameron, renowned director of "Avatar: Fire and Ash," recently shared his perspectives on marriage during an appearance on the "In Depth With Graham Bensinger" podcast. Reflecting on his personal history, Cameron stated that he now understands marriage to be a "learned art," a sentiment honed over decades.
Cameron, who has been married to former actress Suzy Amis since 2000, acknowledged that while he has cherished each of his past spouses, their relationships did not endure for various reasons. His marital history includes unions with Sharon Williams, Gale Anne Hurd, Kathryn Bigelow, and Linda Hamilton, with his first four marriages each lasting less than a year of active cohabitation.
"I could unpack each one individually and they were all different learning curves," Cameron explained, referring to his past relationships. He identified himself as the "common denominator" in these instances. Cameron also noted that he tends to fall in love with individuals he admires and can learn from, but sometimes failed to "pre-select well enough for people that could stand me, that I could stand them."
Currently celebrating over 25 years of a happy marriage with Suzy Amis, with whom he shares three children, Cameron emphasized that earning happiness in marriage involves "constantly learning about the other person" and actively seeking to make them happy. He expressed optimism for the future, looking forward to the next 25 years of his current union.
