Child Star's Bold Leap to Unabomber Role

Jacob Tremblay, who captivated audiences as a child star in "Room" and "Wonder," is set to portray a young Ted Kaczynski in the Netflix film "Unabomber," releasing September 25th. The project delves into Kaczynski's formative years at Harvard in the late 1950s, including controversial psychological experiments, and juxtaposes this with the 1996 FBI manhunt.

Tremblay, now almost 20 and based in Langley, British Columbia, discussed his role. He identified with Kaczynski's youthful struggles to prove himself in an adult world, noting the distinction between sympathizing with a child and an adult perpetrator of terrible acts.

Director Janus Metz praised Tremblay's embodiment of Kaczynski's idealism, while co-star Russell Crowe highlighted the actor's ability to convey vulnerability. Tremblay's own childhood, managed with protective parental guidance, provided him with empathy and emotional awareness, a stark contrast to the dark path of his character.

The Canadian actor's early career was marked by immense success, beginning with "Room" at age 7. His parents ensured his well-being, allowing him to balance acting with traditional schooling and maintaining a sense of normalcy, similar to the fictional Hannah Montana.
