Isabella Boylston, a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre, has become a mother. She and her husband, Daniel Shin, welcomed their son, Magnus Jaejin Boylston Shin, on Friday, June 26. The newborn weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces. Boylston described the experience as "the best thing" they have ever done and expressed deep gratitude for the medical staff at New York Presbyterian.
During the birth, which involved a 24-hour induction, there was a concerning moment when Magnus's heart rate dropped, nearly necessitating emergency surgery. Fortunately, his condition stabilized. Boylston shared that the name Magnus Jaejin honors both her Swedish heritage and her husband's Korean background.
While sleep deprivation has been the most challenging aspect of new motherhood, Boylston and Shin are relishing their time with their son. Boylston, who joined ABT in 2006, had previously announced her intention to take time off for motherhood and is scheduled to return for the 2026-2027 season.
