Rebel Band's American Misadventures: From Irish Fighters to Chicago Mobsters

In October 2025, a group of Irish rebels, known as the Banshees, find themselves in a precarious situation. After a failed assassination attempt on a powerful political figure in Ireland, the Banshees are forced to escape on an American-bound ship, only to be separated upon arrival in Chicago in the frigid winter of 1923.

Determined to lie low and wait for their former wartime commander to negotiate their safe passage home, the Banshees soon find their plan unraveling. Struggling to survive in Prohibition-era Chicago, with the police on their tail and an Irish assassin hot on their tracks, the women resort to selling bootleg liquor to the Irish mob. As their business grows, they attract trouble from brutal gangsters, corrupt cops, and their own increasingly unpredictable natures, leading to a "classic rise-and-fall gangster story of immigrants staking their claim in the land of hope and glory."

The series, titled "The Roaring Banshees," is an adaptation of a hit play by John Morton and Peter McGann, and is being produced by the Dublin-based "Irish Blood" team at Deadpan Pictures and the Canadian shingle Shaftesbury Films. Directed by Neasa Hardiman, known for her work on Netflix's "Untamed" and "Jessica Jones," the 8-episode series is set to be shot in Ireland and Hamilton, Ontario, which will serve as a convincing stand-in for 1920s Chicago.
