Ipswich Community Media, in partnership with Art Eat Events, led the initiative, securing funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to bring the vision to life.
The project engaged 30 local residents from diverse nationalities and backgrounds, including refugees, through workshops. Their stories and shared journeys informed the final design, ensuring the artwork genuinely reflects the community's identity and inclusivity. Artist Atma created the final design based on these collaborative workshops.
This artistic endeavor seeks to foster dialogue and create a positive, joyful symbol for Ipswich. Painting assistant Leo Vanmegen emphasized the importance of celebrating cultural diversity, stating it is essential for the town's strength and survival. The mural aims to give a voice to the community and enhance Ipswich's vibrancy.
