The city of Pune is set to host the inaugural International Circus Festival from November 5 to 15 at Buntara Bhavana in Baner. This landmark event, conceived by Rambo Circus proprietor Sujit Dilip, aims to emulate the prestige of international festivals by bringing together performers from five nations: Vietnam, Mexico, Ethiopia, Nepal, and India.
Showcasing a diverse array of talents, the festival will feature Vietnamese artists with jar balancing and aerial straps, Ethiopian performers demonstrating pole balancing, and a Mexican hair-hanging artist. Indian performers will also present aerial displays, acrobatics, and clown acts, enriching the international lineup. This initiative, however, faces financial challenges due to substantial costs for international travel and accommodation, with Dilip highlighting the need for government support.
Departing from conventional competitions, the festival empowers the audience to select the winners by scanning QR codes post-performance. This interactive format, which had successful trial runs in Hyderabad and Bengaluru in September, emphasizes direct audience engagement. The festival is also scheduled to travel to Delhi for a Christmas engagement, promising wider reach for these global circus traditions.
