Influencer Flees Dubai, Dog Left Behind Amidst Missile Fears

French influencer Maddy Burciaga, 32, faced backlash for leaving her dog behind when she relocated her family from Dubai to Mauritius due to escalating regional conflicts. Burciaga stated that "too much paperwork" made it "too complicated" to bring the pet along.

An animal rights organization, La Ligue Des Animaux, criticized Burciaga, asserting that a dog would not abandon its owner and highlighting the difference between loyalty and comfort. They accused her of superficiality and not making adequate arrangements for the animal's well-being.

Burciaga has since responded, asserting that her family was merely on a short vacation and that her dog, Maya, is considered a beloved family member who is looked after when they travel. She threatened legal action against the animal rights group for damaging her image.

She clarified that their life is in Dubai and they intend to return, emphasizing that if they were leaving permanently, she would have ensured Maya's relocation. Burciaga also noted that her husband, also an influencer, shares responsibility for the dog.

This incident is not Burciaga's first controversy; she previously faced criticism for a misleading promotion involving the Fondation Brigitte Bardot. As of March 2026, tensions persist, with over 1,700 missiles and drones fired at the UAE since February, impacting expat confidence.
