Watermark Art Center is currently hosting "Biida'adoo," an exhibition running through May 15, which highlights Indigenous art, culture, and history.
The exhibit features the diverse artistic expressions of Cindy Hamilton, also known as "The Moccasin Lady," whose work includes traditional leathercraft and portraiture.
Hamilton's leatherwork, such as moccasins and mukluks, often integrates Metis embroidery and Ojibwe florals, honoring her heritage and preserving Indigenous artisanship. She discovered her passion for her roots later in life, inspired by a photograph of her great-grandmother.
Beyond leatherwork, Hamilton also excels in portraiture, capturing subjects ranging from animals to celebrities. "Biida'adoo" invites visitors to appreciate the intertwining of culture, history, and personal expression through Hamilton's art.
A reception for the exhibit will be held on Saturday, March 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the center.
