On November 7, 2025, the Guadalajara Film Festival will honor Academy Award nominee Yalitza Aparicio with the Árbol de la Vida Trailblazer Award. Aparicio, who made history as the first Indigenous woman to be nominated for a Best Actress Oscar, has used her platform to amplify underrepresented voices and champion gender equality and Indigenous rights worldwide.
The festival's director, Ximena Urrutia, praised Aparicio, stating that she "embodies the essence of what the Árbol de la Vida represents -- growth, strength, and deep cultural roots." Urrutia added that Aparicio's journey "reminds us that representation matters, and that storytelling can transform the way we see ourselves and each other."
In addition to the award ceremony, the festival will host two masterclasses on the same day. Actor Danny Trejo will participate in a conversation about his four-decade career, while filmmaker Gia Coppola and production designer Natalie Ziering will explore their creative partnership and the visual storytelling that defines Coppola's work.
