Indie Games Surge: Horror, Retro Beat-'Em-Ups Arrive

A wave of new indie titles has arrived, featuring a mix of genres from retro action to unsettling horror. Marvel Cosmic Invasion, by Tribute Games, offers a side-scrolling beat-'em-up experience reminiscent of 90s animation, boasting varied characters and tag-team mechanics.

Survival horror fans can finally dive into Routine, which launched after a 13-year development cycle. This title immerses players in a retro-futuristic moon base with a focus on atmosphere and exploration. Other horror entries include Sleep Awake, a psychedelic first-person game, and the uniquely bizarre "cozy body horror idle game" Tingus Goose.

Beyond horror, the indie landscape includes the visually striking 3D ASCII RPG Effulgence RPG, the relaxing cabin builder Log Away, and the Simogo Legacy Collection, bundling seven remade mobile games. Movement-focused arena shooter Don't Stop, Girlypop! is slated for January, while Limbot offers cooperative cardboard robot limb control.
