A new online screenwriting lab in India is set to redefine the country's horror film landscape. Platoon One Films has launched a three-month program designed to nurture original horror screenplays, moving beyond conventional ghost stories and horror-comedy formats.
Fifteen selected writers will participate in the entirely online Platoon One Horror Lab. They will dedicate their weekends to developing unique genre scripts under the guidance of experienced screenwriters and directors from India and abroad. This intensive program includes group mentoring, craft discussions, and individualized script feedback sessions.
Upon completion, participants will have the opportunity to pitch their developed projects to industry professionals through Platoon One's network, potentially securing financing and moving towards production. The lab's founder, Shiladitya Bora, emphasized the genre's potential for exploring profound philosophical ideas and societal issues, rather than relying on cheap scares.
Bora expressed a desire to elevate Indian horror by tapping into the nation's vast myths and folklore. He aims to foster a new generation of storytellers capable of creating compelling horror narratives that can captivate audiences worldwide, pushing Indian horror onto the global stage.
