Iconoclastic Indian filmmaker Q's new film, "Deshlai" (Zewel), centers on a young Bangladeshi TikToker with aspirations of becoming a viral firestarter. His online rise is abruptly halted when his brother's drug arrest forces him to flee to India, leaving his digital life behind.
The project, which premiered at Tasveer Film Festival 2025, has now finalized a distribution and sales agreement with Platoon One Films. "Deshlai" will bypass traditional festival routes for a direct-to-audience release, commencing with a theatrical rollout across Bengal, India, the U.S., and the U.K. in February 2026.
Director Q describes "Zewel" as a humanistic portrayal of Bengal's underbelly, exploring shifts in youth identity and aesthetics, while touching upon cross-border migration. Streamer Chorki and Luminary Pictures are also key co-producers, contributing to the film's innovative approach to Bengali content.
