Indian classical dancers now have an opportunity for dedicated artistic growth with the launch of Vihara, a new residency program. Spearheaded by Odissi exponent Surupa Sen and Nrityagram's managing trustee Lynne Fernandez, Vihara aims to provide a sanctuary for uninterrupted practice and artistic exploration.
This initiative is inspired by Sen's transformative experience during a 2016 residency at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York. She recalled the invaluable freedom to immerse herself in her craft without external pressures.
Now, Sen and Fernandez are recreating this inspiring environment in India. The month-long Vihara residency will be fully funded, offering a rare chance for dancers to focus solely on rehearsal, reflection, and creative discovery, fostering a space of trust and artistic renewal.
