Over 300 Indian artists, including young performers born and raised in the US, presented a diverse range of classical and folk dances. The event, a collaboration between the Consulate General of India in New York and the non-profit organization Three Aksha, celebrated India's rich cultural heritage.
The two-hour festival featured approximately 387 artists from ten schools across New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Delaware. They performed classical styles such as Kathak, Kuchipudi, and Bharatnatyam, alongside folk dances like Bhangra. Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Pradhan, lauded the artists for their flawless performances, emphasizing the depth and diversity of 5000 years of Indian culture.
Founded by Bharatanatyam artist Viji Rao, Three Aksha played a pivotal role in curating the festival. Rao underscored the importance of passing down Indian traditions to younger generations of Indian-Americans. The performances included captivating renditions like 'Vande Mataram', 'Dhanashree Thillana', and classical jugalbandis, showcasing the artistic achievements of various dance schools and their directors.
