Khan: Politicians Aren't the Country

Actor Imran Khan has articulated a distinction between government critique and disloyalty, asserting that disagreeing with political leaders does not constitute an unpatriotic act. He highlighted that equating a politician with the nation itself is a misconception.

Speaking recently, Khan stated that citizens hold a significant, if not superior, right to define what their country represents. He emphasized that the critique of a political official should not be mistaken for criticism of the entire country. According to democratic principles, citizens outnumber politicians, thus making them more representative of the nation.

Khan further elaborated that citizens are not obligated to constantly defend their love for the country. He reiterated that politicians are public servants, elected to perform a task, and are not synonymous with the nation. This stance was previously evident when he condemned the lathi-charge and gassing of student protestors in Delhi.

Khan had expressed his distress over the harsh treatment of students who were protesting for education reform. He questioned the purpose of national development if not for the future of its children, criticizing the establishment for silencing and disregarding their concerns. He also noted the hypocrisy of demanding accountability from students while overlooking established authorities.

On a professional note, Imran Khan is slated to make his acting return after a ten-year hiatus. He will star in the upcoming Netflix romantic comedy titled 'Adhure Hum Adhure Tum,' alongside Bhumi Pednekar. The film is directed by Danish Aslam.
