Director Mari Selvaraj has announced his new film, 'Manjanathi,' marking his first collaboration with music legend Ilaiyaraaja, whom he deeply admires. Selvaraj shared that Ilaiyaraaja's music, particularly the song 'Poradada,' was instrumental in shaping all five of his previous film scripts.
Driven by a desire to work with his idol, Selvaraj dedicated himself to crafting a script and establishing his own production house. Upon meeting Ilaiyaraaja, the composer swiftly provided five songs in just five days, leaving Selvaraj astonished.
'Manjanathi' is set to be a female-centric film, a conscious choice by Selvaraj to address the stories of women in his village. He explained that while his previous works stemmed from his inherent anger and politics, this script is uniquely inspired by the vast collection of Ilaiyaraaja's songs he has cherished over the years. Actors Priyanka Mohan, Kayadu Lohar, and Kathir are reportedly attached to star in the film.
