Il Divo's New Era: Life After Loss, New Music Ahead

Classical crossover group Il Divo is preparing to share new music and a stage later this year with Jose Carreras in Brisbane, Australia. The group experienced a significant loss in 2021 with the unexpected death of Spanish baritone Carlos Marín at age 53.

Surviving members Urs Bühler, Sébastien Izambard, and David Miller have found renewed purpose with the addition of Mexican-American baritone Steven LaBrie. Izambard described the process as difficult but necessary to honor their bandmate's legacy. LaBrie's voice was discovered through a recording pitched by Miller, and after discussions, he joined the group.

Marín's passing served as a reminder for the band to cherish life. They are currently working on a new album, a follow-up to their 2024 release XX. This new music will be shared with the world, potentially including further collaborations.

Il Divo, initially mentored by Simon Cowell in 2003, has achieved significant success, selling over 30 million albums and reaching No. 1 on charts on both sides of the Atlantic. They have previously collaborated with artists like Celine Dion and entertained global figures.

Australian audiences will be among the first to experience this new phase, with a concert on December 5th at Brisbane's Gabba Stadium. This event, featuring Jose Carreras and a host of other stars, marks Il Divo's return to Australia since their 2023 tour. The Three Tenors, particularly Carreras, were an early inspiration for Il Divo, a fact Miller emphasizes.
