On October 9th, 2025, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur inaugurated its prestigious 3-day literary festival, 'Akshar 2025'. The event, organized in collaboration with the Shivani Centre, Rajbhasha Prakoshth, Gatha, and Hindi Sahitya Sabha, aimed to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of India through literature, art, and music.
The opening day of the festival created an unforgettable cultural atmosphere, bringing together literature enthusiasts and art connoisseurs from across the country. The event featured a captivating lecture by Vyomesh Shukla on the influence of Varanasi's culture on the works of legendary writer Munshi Premchand, followed by a session on the folk songs of Uttar Pradesh by Siddharth Singh.
The evening was devoted to art and entertainment, with two major performances. Renowned ghazal and playback singer Mohammad Vakil mesmerized the audience with his soulful renditions, while eminent dastangos Himanshu Bajpai and Pragya Sharma presented "Dastan-e-Kaifi Azmi", a narration of the life and revolutionary poetry of the legendary Kaifi Azmi. The day concluded with a melodious performance by acclaimed singer Pallabi Purkayastha.
The festival will continue for the next two days, featuring panel discussions on child rights, women's discourse, and other significant literary dialogues, further showcasing IIT Kanpur's commitment to promoting Indian languages and literature.
