The International Film Festival (IFF) Panama has announced the four finalists for its Primera Mirada fund, selected from 13 submissions. These films will be showcased on April 10-11 for industry professionals. Coordinator Cat Caballero noted a strong theme of introspection and identity, with filmmakers exploring human limits.
The selected projects include a dystopian thriller, a comedy, and two documentaries. "Cuscú," a Panamanian documentary, tackles the sensitive issue of Afro-descendant identity and ongoing conflicts related to natural hairstyles in schools.
Another documentary, "The Language of Water," highlights the critical situation of an indigenous language on the verge of extinction in Venezuela, following its last known speaker.
"Love is the Monster" is a dystopian thriller with an all-female cast. "My Uncle's Movie" is a dark comedy about a young filmmaker managing a chaotic project. The winner of a $15,000 prize will be revealed at the festival's closing ceremony on April 12.
