Ida Ali Directs Short Film Sans Industry Favors

Ida Ali, daughter of acclaimed filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, has embarked on an independent filmmaking journey. She recently directed her first short film with collaborator Kareema Barry, who co-hosts a podcast channel on Hindi films with Ali. Ali expressed a desire to create a project unrelated to brands or music videos, opting instead for something entirely her own. This initiative led to the creation of their short film, followed swiftly by a second titled GUL within a month.

Building on the foundation of their year-old podcast, Ali and Barry have established their own production company. Ida Ali consciously chose not to leverage her family's industry connections, preferring to avoid any perceived favors. She aims for collaborators to join projects based on genuine excitement for the work itself. Ali stated that she would be happy to collaborate with established names once her own projects have reached a level where they can attract such talent.

Meanwhile, Ida's father, Imtiaz Ali, is receiving praise for his recent film 'Main Vaapas Aaunga.' This movie explores the lasting impact of the Partition through the story of a 95-year-old man revisiting his memories.
