Iconic 'Rocky Horror' Soundtrack Gets Deluxe Vinyl Reissue for 50th Anniversary

In a special celebration of the 50th anniversary of the cult classic 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show', a deluxe vinyl edition of the film's iconic soundtrack is being released. The album, pressed on heavyweight 180-gram vinyl in red and gold, is being made available through Ode Records starting today.

The collectible vinyl features a heavyweight gold foil jacket and a redesigned inner sleeve, along with previously unseen photos and a production diary from the film's producer, Richard Hartley. The Rocky Horror Picture Show, based on a stage play by Richard O'Brien who also wrote the film and appeared in it, was initially panned by critics and a commercial flop when it first premiered. However, the movie gained a devoted following through midnight screenings where fans would dress up as characters and mimic the action on screen.

These regular screenings in cities around the world, from New York to Los Angeles to Paris, have given The Rocky Horror Picture Show the distinction of being the longest-running theatrical release in film history. As producer Richard Hartley noted, the rowdy audience participation at these screenings was "funnier than the film" itself, and he and O'Brien recognized the special nature of the phenomenon they had created.
