Summary
- Ernie the giant chicken, a recurring Family Guy character, has been killed off
- Meg Griffin decapitated Ernie after he gave her an ultimatum about dating his son
- Producers say they've gotten the best out of the Ernie character and his fights with Peter

According to the latest news, the iconic Family Guy character Ernie the giant chicken has met a violent end. Ernie, who has faced off against Peter Griffin multiple times since his introduction in Season 1, was recently killed off by Meg Griffin in a shocking turn of events.
Earlier this year, Meg began a relationship with Ernie's teenage son Nugget, much to Ernie's dismay. The giant chicken welcomed Meg into the family at first, but soon gave her an ultimatum: cut ties with Peter or stop dating Nugget. Meg, realizing that Ernie was just as bad as her own father, proceeded to decapitate him, leaving his headless body to run around the front yard.
While many Family Guy characters have been "killed" before only to return, executive producers Alec Sulkin and Richard Appel have confirmed that Ernie's death will stick. They explain that the character's comically long fight sequences with Peter had become difficult to top, and they felt they had gotten the best out of the Ernie storyline.
Only a handful of recurring Family Guy characters have truly been killed off, with the most recent being Stewie's classroom nemesis Doug. As the show prepares to return for Season 24 in 2026, fans will have to bid farewell to Ernie and his legendary battles with Peter.
