Summary
- Film satirizes big fashion with extravagant shoplifters.
- Keke Palmer stars as a fashion designer's vagabond.
- The movie explores themes of workers' rights and capitalism.

"I Love Boosters" is a vibrant and absurd satire from director Boots Riley, reminiscent of his previous work "Sorry To Bother You." The film follows Corvette, a fashion-designer vagabond played by Keke Palmer, and her crew of extravagant shoplifters, the "Velvet Gang." Their targets are the pretentious Metro Designers fashion chain and its cutthroat designer, Christie Smith, portrayed by Demi Moore.
The narrative delves into the exploitative nature of big fashion and manufacturing corporations. As the Velvet Gang, particularly Corvette, becomes more aware of these immoral elements, the film increasingly resembles a disorienting hall of mirrors. It tackles complex themes including workers' rights, the excesses of capitalism, and even introduces physics-altering technology.
While the film's chaotic and colorful story is filled with bizarre plot developments and fun performances, some backstory could have been more fleshed out. Keke Palmer delivers a wacky and wonderful performance, complemented by LaKeith Stanfield's smooth intensity as Pinky Ring Guy and Will Poulter's smarmy portrayal of a company man. Despite its occasional lack of charm, "I Love Boosters" offers a breathless, fun, and colorful viewing experience.
