As of November 1st, 2025, Hyderabad and the state of Telangana are poised to lead India's burgeoning animation industry, according to industry experts. The eighth edition of the Desi Toons conclave, held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) on October 28th, 2025, brought together key players from the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) sectors. Discussions at the event focused on the opportunities, challenges, and future pathways of India's creative economy.
Panelists highlighted Hyderabad's strengths, including the presence of numerous animation production studios and a highly skilled workforce, thanks to the thriving local IT industry. However, they also acknowledged that sparking greater audience interest, particularly among adult viewers, remains a significant challenge. Experts noted that while India produces quality content, more needs to be done to effectively market and promote it, drawing inspiration from the organized approach taken by countries like Japan.
The conclave also featured discussions on the success of recent Indian-made animated films, such as Kalki and Mahavatar Narasimha, with directors sharing their insights on the evolving animation landscape in the country. They emphasized that the industry is maturing, with technology advancements and audiences ready for stories that resonate globally.
