Lionsgate has unveiled a new trailer for "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping," the latest addition to the popular franchise. The film is set 24 years prior to the events of the original "Hunger Games" story.
It centers on Haymitch Abernathy, mentor to Katniss Everdeen and a fellow victor from District 12. The narrative begins on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, which marks Panem's second Quarter Quell.
Due to the Quarter Quell tradition occurring every 25 years, each district must send double the usual number of tributes. This means 48 young individuals will be forced to compete in a deadly battle for survival.
The movie stars Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy. The cast also includes Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Mckenna Grace, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak, and Kelvin Harrison Jr.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, the film is based on a screenplay by Billy Ray. Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, and Francis Lawrence are producing the project.
"The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping" is scheduled to premiere in theaters on November 20, 2026.
