The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album) is set to debut on November 13th, offering 29 tracks inspired by the latest installment in the franchise. Executive producer Dave Cobb, a Grammy winner, meticulously curated a diverse ensemble of artists spanning rock, country, Americana, and pop genres.
Notable artists featured on the album include The Smashing Pumpkins, Stevie Nicks, Tyler Childers, Noah Kahan, and Ella Langley, among others. Cobb aimed to capture the emotional depth of the film, weaving in themes of triumph, sadness, loss, and love through the carefully selected songs.
The accompanying film, directed by Francis Lawrence, will premiere in theaters on November 20th. It chronicles the early life of Haymitch Abernathy from District 12, set 24 years before the original Hunger Games trilogy, exploring his fight against the games from within the arena.
Cobb described the soundtrack project as an opportunity to "live the fantasy league of dream artists" and found that many artists were already passionate fans of The Hunger Games franchise. He highlighted specific contributions, such as The Smashing Pumpkins working with producer Butch Vig, and Gigi Perez being the first artist to submit a song.
