- Actors navigated complex characters and language barriers during production.
- The series utilizes real Hong Kong locations, making the city a character.

Hulu's "The Season" premieres on June 17, offering a six-episode deep dive into the lives of Hong Kong's affluent sailing community. The series was produced by PCCW Media and SK Global, with production primarily taking place at sea over fifty demanding days.
Actors Toby Stephens, Karina Lam, and Jessie Mei Li faced unique challenges. Stephens found himself meditating on deck due to limited space, while Lam, a native Cantonese speaker, honed her English acting. Mei Li worked to maintain an American accent amidst an international cast and crew.
Chris Pang portrayed an intentionally obnoxious character, Andrew Fung, requiring careful balance to ensure audience likeability. Toby Stephens focused on portraying the hidden vulnerabilities beneath the surface of wealthy, powerful characters, emphasizing their shared humanity and fears.
The series, created by Yalun Tu and directed by Marialy Rivas, prominently features Hong Kong. Cast members and the director emphasized that the city itself acts as a character, integral to the narrative and impossible to replicate elsewhere.
Following its Hulu release, "The Season" will also stream on Viu across Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa, and on Now TV in Hong Kong. The cast has moved on to new projects, including Stephens' period film "The Reformation of Mother Agnes" and Mei Li's stage play "Tender."
