A new audio adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic Sherlock Holmes mystery, The Hound of the Baskervilles, is set to captivate listeners. Actor Hugh Bonneville, celebrated for his roles in Paddington and Downton Abbey, will narrate the nine-part series, which premieres on April 27. This production revives the suspenseful structure of the original story, first published 125 years ago in The Strand magazine, by ending each episode with a cliffhanger.
Bonneville expressed his enthusiasm for returning to Conan Doyle's work, noting the genius of the story's original nine-part release. The series aims to immerse listeners in the foggy moors of Dartmouth through an original score, striking artwork, and detailed sound design. This production marks another collaboration between Bonneville and the podcast network Noiser, following his narration of Sherlock Holmes short stories.
The narrative follows detective Sherlock Holmes as he investigates the mysterious deaths plaguing the Baskerville family, with local legends attributing the demise to a demonic hound. Executive producer Katrina Hughes highlighted the story's enduring power, stating that this anniversary production aims to do justice to the classic tale. Noiser+ subscribers will have early access starting April 23, with subsequent episodes released twice weekly across all podcast platforms.
