HTRK's 22-year career in creating a unique blend of electronic pop and noise rock is honored with 'String of Hearts,' an album featuring covers and remixes by prominent artists. This diverse collection includes contributions from emerging talents like Coby Sey and established experimentalists such as Liars.
The record delves into HTRK's sonic evolution, from their early industrial influences to the warmer textures of their recent work. Artists like Loraine James and Zebrablood recontextualize instrumental tracks, while Jonnine Standish's vocals are reinterpreted in various unique ways, demonstrating the band's broad influence.
Some reinterpretations push boundaries, using minimal elements from the original songs, as seen in Perila's ambient take on 'Ha' or Stephen O'Malley and Kali Malone's extended drone version of 'Siren Song.' Others, like Sharon Van Etten's and Double Virgo's contributions, offer exciting adjustments that stay closer to the originals while adding fresh energy and dynamics.
