As of November 2025, it has been revealed that Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan played a pivotal role behind the scenes during the filming of the iconic mustard field scene in the 1995 classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ).
When the DDLJ crew arrived at the mustard fields in Haryana to shoot the famous "Tujhe Dekha To" song sequence, they encountered a roadblock from the local farmers who owned the land. The farmers were not pleased with the film crew's presence and were reluctant to allow the shoot to proceed.
However, Shah Rukh Khan, who hails from New Delhi and speaks Haryanvi fluently, stepped in to negotiate with the farmers. Using his charm and local language skills, Khan was able to convince the farmers to grant permission for the DDLJ team to film the scene.
In an interview, DDLJ director Aditya Chopra recounted the incident, stating that Khan had a "cool Haryanvi accent" and told the farmers, "Thoda ne karne do bhai, kar ke nikal lenge" (Let us just shoot for a bit, and we will leave after that). Khan even joked with the farmers, saying, "Mai kisan he hoon. Main kya hero lag rha hu tujhe?" (I am also a farmer. Do I look like a hero to you?).
Thanks to Shah Rukh Khan's diplomatic efforts, the DDLJ crew was able to set up their cameras and capture the iconic scene, which went on to become one of the most memorable moments in Indian cinema history.
