Targaryen Toddler's Fate Revealed for Season 3
13 Jul
Summary
- Prince Maelor Targaryen will officially debut in Season 3.
- George R.R. Martin expressed disappointment over Maelor's Season 2 omission.
- Production budget and casting a young child influenced Maelor's initial removal.

A Targaryen toddler's destiny is now set for "House of the Dragon" Season 3. Prince Maelor Targaryen, the third child of Aegon II and Heleana, will make his official debut.
This inclusion follows author George R.R. Martin's vocal disappointment regarding Maelor's absence in Season 2. Martin had publicly lamented the alteration of a key scene from "Fire & Blood," where assassins presented Helaena with a horrific choice between her sons.
Initially, Maelor was removed from Season 2 to manage production complexities, including casting and budget constraints. Showrunner Ryan Condal had assured Martin that the character's appearance would simply be postponed to a later season.
However, Martin later claimed a significant change meant Maelor would never be born. It now appears that this decision has been reversed, with the young prince slated to appear in the upcoming Season 3.
