The suspense drama 'The Hourglass' has commenced production in Spain's Canary Islands, featuring Marine Johnson and Luca Colucci in leading roles. The film chronicles the harrowing 465-day captivity of their characters, Edith Blais and Luca Tacchetto, by a terrorist group in Mali, culminating in a daring escape. The narrative is adapted from Blais's own account, 'The Weight of Sand: My 450 Days Held Hostage in the Sahara.'
Director Kim Nguyen is helming the Canada-France co-production, his ninth feature film. Principal photography will also take place in Morocco and Montreal, extending until mid-May. The ensemble cast includes notable actors such as Diouc Koma and Mouloud Ayad. The film is slated for theatrical release in Canada by Les Films Opale and Entract Films in 2027.
