Elderly Home Becomes Curling Team's Training Ground

Oscar nominee June Squibb, Linda Hamilton, Jayne Eastwood, and Caroline Aaron are set to star in "Hot Curlers," a New Zealand sports comedy based on a true story. Cornerstone Pictures will handle worldwide sales for the film, which is slated for production in early 2027 in New Zealand and Calgary. The movie centers on four young curlers from Naseby, New Zealand, who aspire to compete in the Winter Olympics. Their limited budget forces them to train at a retirement home in Calgary, where they form a unique bond with the residents. This unexpected community provides them with coaching, support, and a sense of belonging, highlighting that the journey and connections matter more than victory itself. Director David White, who co-wrote the script with Anna Taylor, expressed excitement about the intergenerational story and the talented cast. Production is supported by South Pacific Pictures and SEVEN24 Films, with the New Zealand Film Commission's participation. Distribution deals are already in place for Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
