Summary
- Hospitalized children designed lanterns for a city light display.
- The Northern Lights Newcastle trail features patient artwork.
- The display runs from November 27 to December 31 in Leazes Park.

Young patients from The Great North Children's Hospital have contributed their artistic talents to the Northern Lights Newcastle winter light display. Their hand-decorated lanterns are now featured installations within the Leazes Park trail, which commenced on November 27 and will conclude on December 31. This project offers the children a meaningful way to engage with the festive season, even while hospital-bound.
The "Lantern Lane" is one of thirteen distinct artistic installations forming the Northern Lights trail. Organized by From the Fields, the event boasts a new route winding through parkland and alongside a lake. Visitors can expect spectacular sights like the "River of Light" and the energetic "Echoflare" exhibition.
This marks the third year for the popular light display, which draws significant crowds. Despite its appeal, a local group recently raised concerns about the park's accessibility due to the event's footprint. The trail provides a unique opportunity for the community to celebrate winter through art and light.
