Writer-director Mico Montes's debut feature, a horror film centered on a group therapy session, offers a workably creepy and absorbing experience. Led by the distinct Dr. Hedonia, the session features patients sharing deeply unsettling traumas, each with their own uniquely florid narrative style.
The patients' stories range from devastating personal loss, like Lenny's account of a house fire, to more bizarre and violent tales. Ariana Livingston narrates a segment involving a dominatrix and torture-porn gore, while Ryan Wayne's story features a chilling violin melody luring a hiker to his doom.
Gabrielle Salinger portrays October, a goth girl whose psychotic break follows an attack, impacting her friendships. Despite some uneven actor performances, Montes and his crew effectively employ sharp editing and atmospheric lighting to create well-timed scares throughout the film.
