25 Sep
Summary
- Actress wore hard contact lenses for over three hours.
- Lenses became stuck, causing pain and panic on set.
- Filmmaker Deepak Ramsay helped remove the stuck lenses.
A harrowing incident occurred on the set of The Zee Horror Show when actress Poonam Dasgupta experienced a real-life horror. While filming a crucial climax sequence, she wore specially made hard contact lenses for more than three hours, significantly over the advised one-and-a-half-hour limit. These rigid lenses, designed with a small central hole for vision, became adhered to her eyes.
The situation turned chaotic when the makeup artist could not remove the lenses, leading to panic among the crew. Dasgupta was in pain, her eyes red and watering, as the team struggled to resolve the crisis late at night. Filmmaker Deepak Ramsay managed to calm everyone and gently removed the lenses, averting a potentially more serious outcome.
Poonam Dasgupta was known for her roles in the Ramsay Brothers' horror productions, a family synonymous with Indian horror cinema. The Ramsay Brothers created numerous horror films and the popular TV series The Zee Horror Show, which aired from 1993 to 2001 and faced controversy over its content.
Deepak Ramsay, who directed the show, recently recounted this frightening experience on a podcast. He emphasized the difficulty in reaching a doctor at that late hour and expressed relief that the lenses were eventually removed without further complication.
