Finnian Garbutt, an actor featured in the BBC Northern Ireland police drama Hope Street, has announced he is in the final stages of his life following a four-year battle with skin cancer. Recent scans have unfortunately revealed rapid progression of the disease throughout his body. Garbutt shared this difficult news on social media to inform loved ones more easily.
He reflected on achieving significant personal milestones since his diagnosis, including starring in 30 TV episodes, a lead movie role, purchasing a home, marrying his partner, and becoming a father to a baby girl. The actor expressed thanks for the support he and his family have received over the years. Filmed in Donaghadee, County Down, Hope Street has spanned five seasons, with Garbutt playing police constable Ryan Power.
Garbutt, who graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2019, also has a history of performing in theatre, including Romeo and Juliet at Belfast's Lyric Theatre. He has appeared in the BBC series Casualty and the film Housejackers, which premiered at the Belfast Film Festival last year. A BBC spokesperson acknowledged Garbutt's significant contribution to Hope Street's success.
