The new Cold War drama, 'Honey,' has officially launched with its world premiere at Cannes, coinciding with initial sales. The series, co-produced for the BBC and ZDF, has secured presales with Australian streamer Stan and Sky in New Zealand.
Fifth Season, the show's distributor, has also finalized deals with OSN+ for the Middle East and North Africa region, and Hot in Israel, following the prestigious premiere at MIPCOM. The narrative centers on Martha, a deep cover agent operating in 1982 East Berlin.
Played by Ann Skelly, Martha finds herself immersed in a world of counterespionage. She also becomes entangled in a complex ménage à trois, exploring themes of desire within a restrictive, semi-totalitarian society. The series incorporates elements of spy thriller, romance, and comedy, as highlighted by lead writer Emma Moran.
Skelly noted the appeal of playing a character described as brazen, bold, and ambitious. The series is set in the same universe as 'Killing Eve,' though it is not a direct prequel. The show explores the tension between personal desires and the need for self-restraint in a controlled environment.
