The Spanish film "Sirāt," a contender for the international feature Oscar, has made history thanks to its pioneering all-women sound team. Supervising sound editor Laia Casanovas, re-recording mixer Yasmina Praderas, and production sound mixer Amanda Villavieja are the first all-female sound team to receive an Academy Award nomination, marking a significant achievement.
Their work on "Sirāt," which follows a father and son searching for a missing daughter in the Moroccan desert, spanned nine months. The team focused on creating an authentic auditory experience, meticulously capturing the ambience of the desert and the distinct sounds of the caravan's vehicles. They also collaborated closely with the composer to ensure the sound design's texture and grain aligned with the film's musical score.
