Summary
- An 11-year-old girl discovered a hero stone worshipped as a deity.
- The stone depicts a warrior fighting, celestial escort, and ascent to heaven.
- Experts believe the stone may predate the legendary warrior queen Mallamma.

A remarkable discovery has been made in Mallammana Belawadi village, Belagavi, where an 11-year-old student, Lakshmi Prakash Humbi, identified a centuries-old hero stone.
Villagers had long worshipped this stone, located near the Hanuman temple, as an idol of Shani. Lakshmi's attention to its intricate carvings, depicting a warrior protecting cattle, his celestial escort, and eventual ascent to heaven, led to the realisation of its true historical nature.
The hero stone's panels narrate a warrior's fight, the divine escort to Kailash, and the attainment of heaven, symbolizing eternal remembrance. While locals associate it with the warrior queen Belawadi Mallamma, historians suggest its style may point to the 12th or 13th century, potentially predating her era.
This find underscores the rich historical treasures hidden in rural areas and emphasizes the importance of identifying and preserving such artefacts for future research and historical understanding.
