London-based Hera Pictures is bolstering its film division with the appointment of Martha Hood as head of development, film. This new role signifies the company's escalating ambitions in feature filmmaking, particularly after the widespread success of 'Hamnet.' Hood, an accomplished executive, will work closely with BAFTA-winning founder Liza Marshall to identify and cultivate distinctive projects tailored for a global audience.
Hood brings valuable experience from her tenure at Blueprint Pictures, where she contributed to the development of critically lauded films such as 'The Banshees of Inisherin' and 'All of Us Strangers.' Her expertise is expected to be instrumental in shaping Hera's future slate, which will focus on filmmaker-led storytelling and ambitious narratives.
'Hamnet,' directed by Chloe Zhao, has achieved significant recognition, including BAFTA awards for outstanding British film and leading actress, along with an Academy Award nomination for best picture. The film has also surpassed $90 million at the global box office. Hera Pictures is also set to commence production on 'The Return of Stanley Atwell,' starring Nicholas Galitzine, and has acquired rights to Maggie O'Farrell's upcoming novel 'Land.'
