Hera Pheri Rights War: Court Sides with Vijay Kumar?
23 Mar
Summary
- Vijay Kumar claims full intellectual property rights to Hera Pheri franchise.
- Producer Firoz Nadiadwala allegedly made sequel without proper consent.
- Court indicates rights favor Vijay Kumar amid ongoing legal dispute.

The intellectual property rights for the Hera Pheri franchise are at the center of an ongoing court dispute between Vijay Kumar and producer Firoz Nadiadwala.
Vijay Kumar asserts he holds complete and clear ownership of the franchise's rights, alleging that Nadiadwala produced the second installment without authorization. While a one-time remake right was granted for the Hindi version, Kumar claims subsequent films were made without his consent.
The conflict escalated with plans for Hera Pheri 3. Kumar stated that Nadiadwala's attempts to proceed with a third film, and alleged efforts to transfer or sell the project, led to the filing of an intellectual property rights case.
The court has reportedly signaled its inclination towards Vijay Kumar's claim, with Kumar expressing confidence in securing a favorable order. He accuses the opposing side of causing delays through repeated adjournments and non-appearance.
Despite the legal complexities, Kumar acknowledges the franchise's significant commercial value and the integral role of the original trio—Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Shetty. He suggests future collaborations are possible after the current dispute is settled, as it "makes the most business sense."
