Hema Malini: Modern Stardom's Overexposure Hurts

Hema Malini recently shared her views on the changing nature of stardom and the importance of graceful aging. Speaking in an interview, she noted the pervasive exposure actors face today, from constant mobile phone photography to intense scrutiny of their every move. Malini contrasted this with her own era, where work was focused and public image was less relentlessly managed.

She also expressed her disapproval of the significant amount of exposure favored by younger female artists today, stating it is particularly concerning for her as a woman and a mother. Malini believes in maintaining oneself and aging with dignity, suggesting cosmetic procedures can be used sparingly if necessary for public-facing individuals, but cautioning against overdoing it.

Furthermore, Malini recounted her decision to decline the lead role in Raj Kapoor's "Satyam Shivam Sundaram" (1978). She explained that while she admired Kapoor and wished to work with him again, she was uncomfortable with the film's overtly bold portrayal of the female protagonist and informed him of her inability to accept the part.
