DC's Gorilla Grodd Faces Trial in New HBO Max Mockumentary

HBO Max has officially ordered an eight-episode mockumentary series focused on the DC Comics character Gorilla Grodd, titled "The People v. Gorilla Grodd." This new series will see Skyler Gisondo reprise his role as Jimmy Olsen from the recent "Superman" film, alongside Jimmy Tatro as Gorilla Grodd.

The show's logline reveals a compelling narrative: a superintelligent ape is convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City. In an eight-part true crime docuseries format, Jimmy Olsen reopens the case to investigate a potential wrongful conviction in a famous Metropolis murder trial.

Joining Gisondo and Tatro are "Superman" co-stars Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White. The series is written and executive produced by Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, who are also showrunners. Yacenda will direct all episodes.

This project marks a return to mockumentary for Yacenda and Perrault, known for creating the acclaimed Netflix series "American Vandal" and the Paramount+ show "Players." James Gunn and Peter Safran also serve as executive producers, with DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television producing.

Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO Programming, expressed excitement for the unique approach to DC characters. Gunn and Safran added that the chemistry from "Superman" made exploring this world appealing, promising a fun and unexpected journey through the DC Universe.
