Mom Disputes Late Daughter's Memoir Account

Lesley Vogel, mother of the late Hayden Panettiere, has disputed her daughter's recollection of a pivotal moment described in her memoir. In 'This Is Me: A Reckoning,' Panettiere recounted telling her mother she wanted to end their professional relationship at age 19.

Panettiere alleged her mother responded with "You owe me," a statement Vogel has now denied in a recent interview. Vogel claims the conversation was brief and did not include the disputed phrase.

The actor, who died on August 16 at 36, also detailed a challenging childhood relationship with her mother in her memoir. Vogel has been described as a "perfectionist" who allegedly pressured Panettiere.

Vogel, however, has pushed back against this characterization, stating she was strong but not abusive, and that their estrangement intensified when she tried to intervene in Panettiere's relationship with Brian Hickerson.

Panettiere's life was marked by struggles with addiction, postpartum depression, and a turbulent relationship with Hickerson, who pleaded no contest to domestic violence charges in 2021.

Hickerson's attorney stated that police found no signs of foul play in Panettiere's death, which remains under investigation.

Panettiere's relationship with the father of her child, Wladimir Klitschko, was also complex, with their daughter Kaya residing with Klitschko in Ukraine.

Additionally, backlash emerged against Neutrogena after Panettiere alleged the company distanced itself from her following her public discussion of postpartum depression.
