Actress Hayden Panettiere was found unresponsive on August 16, 2026, at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina. Newly released 911 call audio reveals the desperate moments as rescuers attempted to save her life.
Zach Hickerson, the brother of Panettiere's on-and-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson, made the call after finding the actress unconscious. He performed CPR while Brian administered Narcan, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses. Emergency services arrived on the scene, but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.
Panettiere, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Greenville County Coroner's Office later determined the cause of death to be the toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine. The manner of death was officially ruled an accident.
The Drug Enforcement Administration was also involved in the investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
